Movember

Movember was started by a couple of Australian mates back in 1999 and became a national event in 2004. It has now spread to New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. The aim of Movember is to raise awareness of Men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression.  The idea is for participants to grow a moustache in the month of November and raise money by getting sponsored by their family, friends and colleagues.

This year I have signed up for Movember for the first time but I want to do more than just grow a moustache. I want to make it bookrageous! So the first thing I need to do is decide on what type of book-inspired facial hair I am going to grow.

There are a couple of rules though:

  1.  I must start on November 1 with a clean-shaven face.
  2. There shall be no joining of the Mo to my sideburns (that constitutes a beard)
  3. There shall be no joining of the handlebars to the chin (that’s a goatee)

So, I need your help to decide on a book-ish Mo.

What famous book characters or authors sported Mo’s and what was the style?

Send me your suggestions (leave a comment, tweet me @PnPBookseller or email jon@pagesandpages.com.au ) before the end of October and then I can get growing. I am going to document my work-in-progress throughout November/Movember and hope to raise a bit of cash for charity!

If you want to donate now go here http://au.movember.com/mospace/518514/

If there is anyone else who is interested in doing Movember we could even start a team of book-ish people. And girls don’t feel left out because you can also register as a Mo Sista, supporter of Mo Bros.
