Why it’s worth saving the local book industry

I wrote an article for the St James Ethic Centre’s Living Ethics publication on why I think people should support Australian booksellers rather than overseas ones.

  1. I loved the article and enjoyed your passion. I love going into a bookshop where people know their stuff – and find new books that appeal to you through their recomendations. It is definitely worth supporting the local industry for those reasons.

Having said that, I can’t afford to buy new books at the rate that I read so most of my books come from second hand book shops for financial reasons, which I imagine is the biggest reason people are turning to the internet and overseas books.
