It has been a while since I picked up a Longmire book. Not sure why the delay but I finally picked up the fourth book and was straight back into the series. After not having had the TV show for over twelve months I really noticed how much I missed the characters.
After the last book was mainly set in Philadelphia it was good to be back in Wyoming after my extended break from the series. However that quickly changes when the book of a young Vietnamese woman is found and we flashback to Longmire’s experiences during the Vietnam War. A homeless Native American man appears to be the most likely suspect especially given his criminal history and aggressive reaction to Walt and his deputies. But there is more to this case than meets the eye and Longmire knows it.
Craig Johnson builds this mystery nicely. Weaving Longmire’s backstory neatly into the mystery and keeping you guessing along the way. There are no tricks or overly clever plot twists to a Longmire mystery, just great characters in a great setting keeping you utterly enthralled. I certainly won’t be having such a big gap between my next Longmire novels.
